SEMARANG — The Community Service Team from the Information Systems Doctoral Program (DSI) at the Diponegoro University Graduate School held an activity on Saturday, April 25, 2026, utilizing Gemini, a generative artificial intelligence-based platform, to support the creation of digital promotional content for the Nongkosawit Gungpati Tourism Village in Semarang.
This activity was held as a form of academic contribution from the Undip Postgraduate DSI to strengthen the capacity of the community, particularly tourism village managers, tourism groups (Pokdarwis), MSMEs, and local youth, in utilizing digital technology practically and productively.
The activity, which took place in Nongkosawit Village, Gunungpati District, Semarang City, was attended by the Head of Nongkosawit, Al Choiri, S.H.; the Head of the Kandang Gunung/Nongkosawit Pokdarwis, Suwarsono; Prof. Dr. Ir. R. Rizal Isnanto, S.T., M.M., M.T., IPU, ASEAN Eng.; and Dr. Qidir Maulana Binu Soesanto, S.Si., M.Sc.
The presence of village government officials, tourism managers, academics from the Diponegoro University Postgraduate Program in Information Technology (DSI), and the community demonstrated a shared commitment to fostering the development of Nongkosawit Tourism Village through a collaborative approach.
In this activity, participants received an introduction and hands-on practice using Gemini to develop promotional content ideas, create tourism narratives, design social media captions, develop poster concepts, and develop destination storytelling based on local potential. The material aimed to ensure participants were not only familiar with AI technology but also able to use it for real-world, simple promotional needs that align with the character of Nongkosawit Tourism Village.
The Diponegoro University Postgraduate Program in Information Technology (DSI) Community Service Team stated that utilizing generative AI can be a practical solution for tourism villages with limited resources for design, content writing, and digital communication strategies.
“Through this training, the community is encouraged to be more independent in producing promotional content that is consistent, engaging, and easily disseminated through digital channels such as Instagram, WhatsApp, TikTok, and other online promotional media,” said Prof. Dr. Ir. R. Rizal Isnanto.
“We hope the Nongkosawit community will be increasingly prepared for developments in digital technology, particularly in utilizing AI as a creative tool. This Community Service Program (PKM) activity is also expected to produce concrete outcomes in the form of promotional content samples, destination narratives, and publication material designs that can be used sustainably by the Nongkosawit Tourism Village managers,” he added.
The Head of Nongkosawit, Al Choiri, S.H., welcomed this activity, as it aligns with the village’s need to highlight local potential, including tourism, culture, the creative economy, and community empowerment. Support from the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) is also crucial, as tourism managers are the primary actors directly involved in destination promotion and development.
The activity concluded with a discussion, practical content development, and a shared commitment to strengthening the digital promotion of Nongkosawit Tourism Village as one of Semarang’s community-based tourism potentials.
